U.S. 74 Eastbound reopens to traffic following weeklong closure

LAURINBURG — The portion of U.S. 74 closed following a vehicle fire in Scotland County has reopened, a spokesperson for the NC Department of Transportation confirmed Friday.

PEMBROKE — During a special called meeting on July 9, the board of trustees named Dr. Rich Castillo the founding dean of the School of Optometry at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The announcement comes two months after UNCP received unanimous approval from the UNC System Board of Governors to establish a Doctor of Optometry program.

Library’s Summer Reading Program showcases Rockstar Magic | PHOTOS

Many did not believe their eyes at the continuation of the Scotland County Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program. Dozens of children witness a series of illusions in a show featuring Rockstar Magic of Chris and Neil in this week’s program held at the Laurel Hill Community Center. The Summer Reading Program’s continues with Mad Science at the Wagram Recreation Center at 10:30 and 1 p.m. on July 17.

Lumberton theater to present comedy series, organ concert this August

LUMBERTON — The Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater in downtown Lumberton will premiere its new Carolina Comedy Jam as well as present a night of silent films and organ music in August.
